The following definitions will be used:

  • Camera-angle: measured from a horizontal line.

  • Camera-height: mounting height of the camera

  • Distance camera to point in the image-center. This distance is already fixed with camera angle and camera mounting height. But for better estimation of your camera setup, we add it as an additional parameter.

In the following, we give standard examples, with the following assumptions:

  • Car-width = 2 m

  • Parking length/car-length = 5 m

  • Height of the occluding vehicle = 2.5 m

Color-code:

  • green: good accuracy

  • yellow: will work in most cases, but parking spots might be occluded if the neighboring spaces are occupied with a large vehicle

  • orange-red: not recommended: might work in some cases, but in general this spot has high potential to be occluded by a vehicle parking on the spot next to it.

  • black: not recommended at all!

Single parallel parking line

Increasing the distance of camera to vehicle helps to monitor more vehicles.

Higher mounting will help in case there is traffic or other potential occlusion in front of the parallel parking line

Two parallel parking lines

For two or more parallel parking lines, mounting height is crucial in order to reduce occlusions - The higher, the better.

The distance from the camera to the vehicle has a bad impact on the occlusions. So the right combination of distance and height need to be found.
